It’s great to be a student in Chatswood!

Chatswood is a vibrant, bustling suburb on Sydney’s north shore, super close to Macquarie University and not far from the CBD either.

This will make Iglu Chatswood Student Accommodation, which is on track to open for Semester 1, 2014, the perfect home base for any Sydney student.

So, why is it great to be a student in Chatswood?

First there is transport – Macquarie University and the Sydney Institute of Business & Technology are just 11 minutes away by train. Given its proximity to North Sydney and the CBD – a 15 to 25 minute train ride – it is also easy to get to the Australian Catholic University’s North Sydney campus, University of Sydney, the University of Technology Sydney and many other colleges and schools.

For those who like a spot of retail therapy or escapism, there are options galore with several large shopping malls including Chatswood Chase and Westfield Shopping Centre. Most major Australian retailers are represented as well as many international brands.

There are also two Hoyts cinemas to satisfy even the keenest of movie-goers. Your tummy will also enjoy Chatswood. There are plenty of eating options to suit any student budget, including the Mall Market on Thursday and Friday, cheap and cheerful noodle houses, international cuisine restaurants and popular Yum Cha eateries.

But don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to work off the yummy food with fitness clubs, Pilates and dance studios all nearby.

If you have a cultural bent, there are always events to take in at the Mosaic Multicultural CentreZenith Theatre, and ‘The Concourse’, which contains a large 1000 seat Concert Hall and 500 seat theatre and hosts comedy, music, dance and theatre events throughout the year. There is also an Outdoor Urban Screen for public entertainment including open-air cinema, live sporting events and more.

Obviously students need good places to study and Chatswood Library provides just that. With over 5,000 square metres of books, resources, reference material and a multilingual collection in more than 10 languages, what more could you want.

If you are partial to a festival, Chatswood’s annual Spring Festival will float your boat. Held in September, it attracts over 200,000 people and features more than fifty visual arts, theatre, music, cultural and outdoor events.

And, if you feel like heading for the sea or the hills, that’s easy too. So many places are within easy reach from Chatswood with direct buses to Sydney’s famous Manly Beach and convenient train access to the airport, Blue Mountains, Central Coast, Newcastle and South Coast…but that’s for another blog!
