About the Australian Catholic University, Melbourne

Although a relatively young university (1991), the Australian Catholic University (ACU) is an institution that is built on centuries of Catholic tradition and values. Placed in the top 10 of all Catholic Universities, ACU is home to almost 35,000 students and is dedicated to providing world leading experiences enhanced by innovation and creativity. With seven campuses operating around Australia, the university maintains a sense of oneness through the various unifying student initiatives that operate all year round. The university has a single aim: to provide meaningful education in a world of mass production. With a recent focus placed on expanding current research capabilities, an intensification program was prepared and launched in 2014. Just one year later, ACU was named the most improved institution by The Australian Research Council. Every action is carried out simultaneously with the university mission in mind – to value the pursuit of knowledge, the dignity of the individual and the common good – and to fulfil against the ACU values of truth, academic excellence and service. Students will graduate with more than simply a degree. They will leave ACU with a new way of seeing the world that puts social justice right at the centre. Respectful and welcoming of all faiths, Australian Catholic University embraces a culturally diverse environment and continually seeks to serve the wider community.

The facilities

The St Patrick’s campus is set in the heart of Melbourne with fantastic access to all the city has to offer. Offering outstanding academic facilities and hands-on learning experiences, there are also galleries, lecture halls, cafes and study areas available for use. Over the next 10 years, the Melbourne campus will also benefit from a range of new facilities including enhanced teaching spaces, study areas and recreational spaces. ACU Melbourne has four key faculties (education and art, theology and philosophy, law and business, and health sciences) and each offers a range of academic courses. Attention and care for the individual student is of high consideration, and fitness classes and counselling support are all available on-site as part of a mental and physical wellbeing program. The annual ACU Games along with Wired, the campus-wide community radio station, ensure that the students feel interconnected and part of the wider university cohort.

Transport and access

The Melbourne campus is located at the heart of the CBD and benefits from Melbourne’s fantastic public transport system. Close to trams, buses, trains and cycleways, ACU is close to the CBD and less than 2km walking distance from Iglu Melbourne City. Car parking is available nearby but is not encouraged. Cycling is heavily supported, with bike racks available all over the campus.
