About the Australian Catholic University, Brisbane

Although a relatively young university (1991), the Australian Catholic University (ACU) is an institution that is built on centuries of Catholic tradition and values. Placed in the top 10 of all Catholic Universities, ACU is home to almost 35,000 students and is dedicated to providing world leading experiences enhanced by innovation and creativity. With seven campuses operating around Australia, the university maintains a sense of oneness through various unifying student initiatives. The university has a single aim: to provide meaningful education in a world of mass production. With a recent focus placed on expanding current research capabilities, an intensification program was prepared and launched in 2014. Just one year later, ACU was named the most improved institution by The Australian Research Council. Every action is carried out simultaneously with the university mission in mind – to value the pursuit of knowledge, the dignity of the individual and the common good – and to fulfil against the ACU values of truth, academic excellence and service. Students will graduate with more than simply a degree. They will leave ACU with a new way of seeing the world that puts social justice right at the centre. Respectful and welcoming of all faiths, Australian Catholic University embraces a culturally diverse environment and continually seeks to serve the wider community.

The facilities

Set in the sprawling Banyo campus of leafy Brisbane, the university is a blend of historic and modern. There are four key faculties (education and art, theology and philosophy, law and business, and health sciences) and each offers a range of academic courses. Attention and care for the individual student is of high consideration, and fitness classes and counselling support are all available on-site as part of a mental and physical wellbeing program. The annual ACU Games along with Wired, the campus-wide community radio station, ensure that the students feel interconnected and part of the wider university cohort.

Transport and access

The Brisbane campus is located just 12km north of the CBD and is accessible by car, bus, train or bike. Two free ACU shuttle buses operate Mon-Sat between local transport hubs (stations and shopping centres) and there is a direct bus link back to the CBD and Iglu Brisbane, making it convenient for students in accommodation. A cycle-friendly city, bike parking racks are available on campus. Car parking is limited and not encouraged.
