  • Hi Dinah! What are you studying?

Bachelor of Fine Arts (Film, Screen and New Media)

  • Why did you choose to study in Australia?

There were many criteria and situations to think of when studying abroad, most of it fall under safety. After doing my research, I find that Australia is relatively safer and accommodating to my lifestyle I have back at home!

  • Why did you choose to study in Brisbane?

Other than the fact that my sister used to study in Brisbane, I also find that there’s a balanced vibe in Brisbane as compared to the other cities – it’s not too laid back, nor too fast-paced – and it’s just the right balance I needed to be able to adapt away from home! Apart from that, I was also more drawn to Brisbane because of the opportunity to study film!

  • Why did you choose to live at Iglu?

Starting a whole new life in a whole new country as an introvert is hard, I knew that if I were to live completely on my own, I’d stay a hermit. I searched up student accommodations online and came across Iglu and I loved how the property looked, as well as how student-oriented the community is!

  • What is your favourite thing about being a student?

The student discounts for sure! The assignments can be overwhelming and stressful but the discounts probably balance them out.

  • What is your favourite thing to do when you are not studying?

Gymming! If I’m not in the gym destroying my body, you’d probably find me at any of the lovely cafes here in Brisbane just chilling and reading <3

  • So you’re a Resident Leader. What’s your favourite thing about being an RL?

The events! Other than hosting and planning events for the residents, I also do enjoy interacting and meeting new personalities during these events!

  • What is your favourite thing about Iglu?

Definitely the community! As mentioned, I started off as an introvert and it was really difficult for me to step out of my comfort zone because I would get so anxious meeting new people. After almost a year in Iglu, I’ve met the sweetest bunch of friends and it’s safe to say they’ve pulled me out of my shell and I’m a lot more confident and outgoing than I was before!

  • Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I’ve always had this ambitious goal where I’d end up in my own penthouse while chilling with my cat, so hopefully I’m already on my way to achieving that goal in 5 years.

  • What words of wisdom would you pass on to future Iglu residents?

One thing that I’ve learnt being here is to really; do it for you. It’s always you vs you in this world, you’re your biggest competitor so stop comparing yourself to the people around you!! Starting a whole new life in uni can be intimidating, but you got this! <3
