How to make the most of student accommodation facilities

Finding the right type of student accommodation is a big part of settling into university life. What suits one student won’t necessarily work well for another, and it can be a long process working out which type of student accommodation is going to suit you the best. But once you finally have it sorted and are fully in the student swing, it can be easy to forget about all the amazing student accommodation facilities that helped you make this choice in the first place! Here’s a reminder of how to make the most of everything you have on offer.

Connect with others

Interacting with other students and creating those social connections is an important part of settling into your new student life. The chances are you probably won’t know many people either at university or in your student accommodation – and you certainly won’t be alone in this. The good news is, it doesn’t have to be difficult because lots of other students are in the same situation. Shared living arrangements are a great way to have company on tap, and you can pick and choose when you want to engage. For students living alone, it helps to have the opportunity to interact with others in a natural and organic way – and that’s where communal living areas are incredibly useful. Take advantage of the many shared social spaces at Iglu, from the communal kitchens and outdoor terraces through to the BBQ area, media rooms and games tables. These areas are specifically designed so that students can socially interact over common interests. You might discover your new best friend at the other end of the table tennis table, or the opportunity to join a new club through a conversation while cooking dinner. Stay open minded, and you never know where it could lead.

Study effectively

It’s not always easy to focus on studying, especially with the lure of so many distractions. Some students find it easier to study in private areas, whereas others find it more productive to study in groups or shared spaces. All Iglu accommodation properties have a range of study spaces available, aside from the privacy of your own room. Sometimes, it can be helpful to switch up the environment and study in a different private area, or work alongside others in a quiet shared space. If you’re working on a group task, it’s useful to have access to a shared study area where you can get together and work outside of hours. Whatever your preferred method, Iglu student accommodation has a range of private and shared study spaces that are available for student use. Students are also provided with high-speed Wi Fi as part of one easy all-inclusive bill to support their study habits. It also helps to be surrounded by other students that come from a range of disciplines and year groups, meaning there is plenty of opportunity and resources within the Iglu community to help guide and advise.

Keep fit

Iglu student accommodation has many and varied options available to keep students healthy and fit while they are at university. Students that prefer a more structured gym environment can take advantage of access to fitness areas either onsite or close by, while those who prefer to train on their own terms can use the outdoor terraces for personal training sessions, yoga or meditation. There’s even the opportunity to use the media rooms as another fitness area. Iglu’s central city locations like Iglu Melbourne City mean that students also have the opportunity to walk to lectures and explore the city by foot. Secure bike storage makes it even easier to get around on wheels, meaning students can easily explore their new environs, keep fit and protect the environment at the same time.

Healthy body, healthy mind

Even the most reluctant of student cooks has to get in that kitchen at some point, and if you’re someone who hates cooking or lacks inspiration there’s nothing better than doing it in company. The Iglu communal kitchens are a great place to hang out, meet others and share recipe ideas – and you can take advantage of all the fantastic facilities at the same time. It’s a low-touch way of interacting with others, and often leads to new friendships and opportunities which are known to improve your state of mind. That’s a win-win right there! And with a healthy diet linked to better output, it’s definitely in your interests to make the most of the onsite kitchen facilities.

Embrace your community

Research tells us that personal interactions improve our state of mind, especially in a fun and sociable environment. Iglu residents are lucky enough to have a built-in community on tap, with a packed events calendar for all students can enjoy. Making friends as a new student can be hard at the beginning, so this is the ideal way to get you started. From movie nights and student quizzes through to cultural celebrations and outdoor picnics, there’s always something to jump in on when you want to spend time with others away from the books. Interacting with the Iglu community is a great way to expand your network, meet students from different universities and really get the most out of your university experience.

If you’re living on your own for the first time, Iglu student accommodation has everything you need to support your journey to independence. From getting your own washing done, to providing your own meals and everything in between, Iglu has you covered. The convenient location makes everything accessible, and with 24/7 security and onsite support, it helps to know that you’re never on your own.
