About UTS: University of Technology Sydney

UTS is a public research university with a vision to be a world leading university of technology. Committed to research and innovation and well-known for practise-specific teaching, the University of Technology aims to gain recognition for achieving a global impact and making a difference. With over 44,000 students, UTS is one of the largest tertiary providers in Australia and is dedicated to supporting the local economic prosperity of local communities, as well as protecting social and cultural values. As part of the Australian Technology Network, UTS is committed to working with industry and government to deliver practical and professional courses. There is an expanded focus on delivering practice-oriented learning and discipline-specific skills which will equip students for future success. The University of Technology fosters relationships with local industry and communities through partnerships, projects and events and is committed to contributing to a sustainable future – through its own buildings and developments as well as focussed research. The university is continually evolving, and the main City campus recently consolidated into a single unified operation. Located close to the CBD as well as neighbouring creative and digital spaces, UTS combines both innovative teaching and global research initiatives that in turn supports a culturally and socially diverse environment.

The facilities

UTS houses nine faculties and schools that operate from six separate but connected precincts. The City campus combines Broadway, Haymarket and Blackfriars and is home to the famous UTS Tower. Broadway sits at the heart of the campus and is open to the general public as part of an open-door university policy. Situated close by to Central Station it is just a short walk across to the neighbouring Haymarket buildings where aspiring business leaders gather in the main Frank Gehry building. The quieter heritage setting of Blackfriars is just another 5 minutes away. Sports programmes operate out of Moore Park – including special facilities made available by Ruby Australia – and a vast UTS tech lab is located near the airport at Botany. This industrial hub houses a range of specialist labs that conduct research, testing and development across many different fields. Randwick’s Kidman Centre is a research unit that operates out of the Prince of Wales Hospital and is specifically tasked with mental health treatment and research.

Transport and access

Located next to Central Station, the City campus is easily accessible by foot if you’re living at Iglu Broadway, Iglu Central or Iglu Central Park, or by train if you’re at Iglu Redfern, Iglu Mascot, Iglu Summer Hill or Iglu Chatswood. On campus parking is very limited. It requires a specific permit, and students are encouraged to use public transport where possible. A free nightly shuttle bus operates between Broadway and Haymarket, as well as between Broadway and Botany. The new light rail service means there is now a regular service operating between the City campus and Moore Park.
