LEARN MOREAbout the University of Queensland
Founded in 1909 and a member of the prestigious Group of Eight, the University of Queensland is a public research institution committed to enhancing society through collaboration and the pursuit of excellence. One of the original six sandstone universities, Queensland University remains steeped in tradition and history. But as a founding member of edX (along with partners Harvard and MIT), UQ also sits actively at the forefront of innovation and development and consistently ranks as one of the top universities in the world. Housing eight globally recognised research institutes and a member of the esteemed Universitas 21 research network, Queensland Uni delivers globally significant solutions that will have a life-changing impact. Providing a learning hub for curious minds with a strong research focus in science, medicine and technology, QU allows the opportunity for students to turn their ideas into reality. With an emphasis on teaching excellence, the University of Queensland has won more Australian Awards for university teaching than any other in the country. UQ offers the widest range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Queensland, and achieves this through a balance of support, structure and flexibility. With over 53,000 students from over 130 countries, Queensland University is dedicated to equipping students for success in todays’ fast evolving workplace.
The facilities
The University of Queensland maintains a number of campuses across Queensland, with six key research and teaching faculties: Business and Law, Engineering and Technology, Health sciences, Social sciences, Medicine and Science. The main campus of St Lucia is neatly tucked in a bend of the Brisbane River and has long been widely recognised for its natural beauty. With sandstone buildings and research facilities situated alongside lecture theatres and Queensland’s largest research library, at its centre sits the heritage-listed Great Court. This fantastic open area is the beating heart of the campus and is connected by an undercover arcade. The Medical School and Research Institute is housed at Herston in the heart of the Hospital district and sits conveniently close to the city centre. Gatton campus in regional Queensland is the QU centre for teaching in agriculture and the environment.
Transport and access
Conveniently serviced by bus, train and ferry, St Lucia is well connected to the city as well as just 30 mins from Iglu Brisbane City using public transport options. A direct bus to the campus leaves from right outside the front door. The Herston campus is also easily accessible by bus and train. It’s a 10-minute bus ride to Iglu Kelvin and just 20-minute walk from nearby Fortitude Valley. Car parking is limited at both campuses, so public transport is advised.
