About RMIT University

Originally founded by the Scottish politician Francis Ormond, a firm believer in the transformative power of education, the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology was once a night school for working men. Today, RMIT is a global university with over 87,000 students enrolled, and – courtesy of Queen Elizabeth – the only Australian tertiary provider officially entitled to use the ‘Royal’ prefix. The Institute of Technology has a vision to unite talent with industry, to make students ‘ready for life and work’, just as the motto describes. Guided by a core set of values, the students at RMIT University are encouraged to make a difference locally and globally by embracing the six pillars of belief: Inclusion, Imagination, Agility, Courage, Passion and Impact. Each belief embodies an ethical code that inspires learning, embraces challenges and adapts for the future. RMIT specialises in practical industry-based learnings that are designed to equip students with the necessary vocational skills that are useful in real life scenarios. In providing opportunities for internships, work experience and placements, students have the opportunity to put theory straight into practise. RMIT University enjoys an international reputation for excellence across both professional and vocational education, as well as research and engagement with industries worldwide.

THE FACILITIES

RMIT University has three campuses in Melbourne, a further two in Vietnam and one in Barcelona as well as multiple partnerships in place across Asia. All local and international campuses feature award-winning buildings that showcase some of the most technologically-advanced facilities in the world. The historic Melbourne RMIT campus is well known for its striking architecture, and many of the original 1887 buildings are still very much in use. The campus exterior merges with the city itself, and this is reflective of how the students immerse themselves in the surrounding industries. And as the RMIT Melbourne campus continues to expand and develop – as illustrated by the recent Singer Building, the Design Hub and the Swanston Academic Building – the students continue to benefit from this academic and creative infusion. The Bundoora campus (18km north-east of city centre) provides the perfect setting for health and medical science studies as well as excellent sporting facilities. Design related studies and education are taught from the Brunswick campus (6km north of the city). Burgeoning designers can be happily found at The Fashion Hub, a world class facility with a pioneering creative space specifically for fashion design.

TRANSPORT AND ACCESS

Every RMIT campus is easily accessed by public transport or by car. The Melbourne campus is so central it could easily be mistaken for part of the city. It’s right around the corner from Iglu Melbourne Central, an 8-minute walk from Iglu Melbourne City, a 14-minute walk from Iglu Flagstaff Gardens and an eight-minute train journey from Iglu South Yarra. The Brunswick campus is accessible by train from all four locations, and free parking is available with a valid permit. Bundoora campus runs a free courtesy bus between buildings as well as to nearby eateries and transport options. Parking is also available via a permit system. You can download our simple distance guide for more details on getting from our Iglu locations to each RMIT campus.

YOUR COMMUTE MADE EASY
