• Hi Sonia! What are you studying?

  Postgraduate studies: Juris Doctor in Law

• Why did you choose to study in Australia?

  When I studied at The University of Melbourne for my Bachelors Degree in International Relations and Criminology, I really enjoyed the course and thrived in the Australian education system. I made meaningful friendships, was very involved in multiple leadership positions at a variety of student societies as well as founding non profit organizations such as the Women In Commerce and Politics on campus: these valuable experiences helped develop strong skillsets that went on to influence my career path as an entrepreneur and a presenter/policy researcher in cybercrime prevention. The Australian education has also helped me navigate through the job market easily, with internship offers from multiple international law firms. Having witnessed how beneficial the Australian education system has been for me, and with aspirations to become a lawyer in the long run – I chose yet again to return to Australia to do my Juris Doctor in Law starting in Jan 2024!

• Why did you choose to study in Melbourne?

  I find Melbourne to be calm, with the perfect environment for anyone who wants to really focus on their studies. I also find that healthy food is easily accessible in Melbourne and is also very compatible with my fitness plans as a competitive martial artist.

• Why did you choose to live at Iglu?

  My agent in Hong Kong suggested me to stay at Iglu. I also find staff members to be super friendly, supportive and understanding – which is very important to ensure that students have a great student experience during their time there.

• What is your favourite thing about being a student?

  I love studying, making friends, getting involved and making friends in societies and initiatives that support my interests.

• What is your favourite thing to do when you are not studying?

  I love fitness, boxing, martial arts, singing and cafe hopping especially in Melbourne where there are many great coffee hotspots around the city!

• What is your favourite thing about Iglu?

  I love the spacious nature of my room, and the lobby compared to other rooms I have lived in at different accommodations like Scape and Student Village. I love the breakfast served in the mornings, and the friendliness of the staff members at the counter.

• Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

  As a commercial lawyer, I see myself working in a business city, like Sydney for the first few years and then Hong Kong and/or London in the long run.

• What words of wisdom would you pass on to future Iglu residents?

  Make Friends, Be Ambitious and Make Pragmatic plans to reach your goals but also don’t forget to Laugh and Enjoy along the way!!
