The Iglu Guide | Blog

Paula V.

  • Hi Paula! What are you studying?

    Psychology

  • Why did you choose to study in Australia?

Australia is a multi-cultural country where I can learn about diverse things from people with different backgrounds.

  • Why did you choose to study in Sydney?

Sydney is an amazing city with friendly people, nice weather and peaceful lifestyle.

  • Why did you choose to live at Iglu?

First of all is safety. Besides, I had opportunities to make more friends outside of the university from the community in Iglu. Also, all bills are included in the rent with free breakfast during weekdays.

  • What is your favourite thing about being a student?

I am able to learn from a lot of seniors and peers at my university. It’s also important to acknowledge that you can make mistake as long as you pull out a lesson from it. It’s the experience that will help you improve in the future.

  • What is your favourite thing to do when you are not studying?

Listening to music, yapping/chatting with friends, exploring new suburbs/shops that I’ve never been to.

  • So you’re a Resident Leader. What’s your favourite thing about being an RL?

I got a chance to help the residents because I was supported a lot when I first came here so I also want the new residents to have the same good experience as I did.

  • What’s your go-to spot for studying or relaxing at Iglu?

For studying, definitely the study rooms. For relaxing, I usually meet up and chat with my friends in the lobby area.

  • Describe your favourite thing about Iglu?

I love everything but if I have to choose, I would say the clean environment and a variety of events.

  • Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

I’m planning to continue studying after my bachelor so it might take 1-2 years more. After that, probably have a job related to my major psychology (can be counseling, forensic or research field).

  • What words of wisdom would you pass on to future Iglu residents?

Be kind, be confident and don’t be afraid of changes. It’s okay to feel down sometimes because we are still humans. Suppress it only makes it worse, try to talk to someone that you trust (family, friends, teachers, support services…). Live your life without regrets.
