Angel G.

  • Hi Angel! What are you studying?

    Bachelor of Commerce

  • Why did you choose to study in Australia?

I chose Australia because of its world-class education system, diverse and welcoming culture, and globally recognized qualifications. The opportunity to learn in a supportive, innovative environment while experiencing a vibrant lifestyle and beautiful natural surroundings made it the perfect place for both academic and personal growth. Australia’s strong post-study work options and multicultural communities also played a big role in my decision.

  • Why did you choose to study in Melbourne?

I chose Melbourne because it’s known as one of the world’s most livable cities and a leading hub for education, culture, and innovation. The city is home to top-ranking universities, a vibrant student community, and a multicultural environment that makes it easy to feel at home. Melbourne’s dynamic lifestyle, excellent public transport, and opportunities for part-time work and internships made it the ideal place to pursue both my academic and personal goals.

  • Why did you choose to live at Iglu?

I chose to live at Iglu because it offers a perfect mix of comfort, convenience, and community. Its modern, fully furnished rooms, great locations close to universities and public transport, and all-inclusive rent made it an easy choice. Iglu also has a strong student vibe, with regular social events and a safe, supportive environment that makes it feel like a home away from home.

  • What is your favourite thing about being a student?

My favourite thing about being a student is the constant opportunity to learn and grow, both academically and personally. I enjoy discovering new ideas, meeting people from diverse backgrounds, and challenging myself to think in different ways. It’s a time of exploration, freedom, and building the foundation for my future.

  • What is your favourite thing to do when you are not studying?

When I’m not studying, I love staying active with Pilates and going for runs, they help me clear my mind and boost my energy. I also really enjoy cooking; it’s a fun and creative way to relax and try out new recipes.

  • So you’re a Resident Leader. What’s your favourite thing about being an RL?

My favourite part of being a Resident Leader is creating a welcoming and safe environment for everyone. I love knowing that I can help new residents feel at home, especially when they’re adjusting to a new city or country. It’s really rewarding to be the friendly face they can turn to, someone who listens, supports, and helps build a positive community.

Making people feel safe, both physically and emotionally which is something I take seriously. Whether it’s organizing events that bring people together or simply checking in on someone who might be struggling, I enjoy fostering a space where everyone feels respected, valued, and comfortable. Being a Resident Leader means making a real difference in people’s day-to-day lives, and that’s incredibly fulfilling.

  • Describe your favourite thing about Iglu?

My favourite thing about living at Iglu is definitely the incredible sense of community. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed by friendly faces and a supportive atmosphere that makes it easy to settle in, even if you’re far from home. Everyone here is approachable and open, which creates a warm environment where it’s simple to make new friends and build meaningful connections.

Whether it’s casual conversations in the communal areas, participating in social events, or just bumping into neighbours in the hallways, there’s always a sense of belonging. I love how Iglu encourages students to come together, share experiences, and support each other—not just academically, but personally too. It feels like a real home away from home, where you’re never alone and can always find a friendly ear or a helping hand.

This welcoming community has made my student life so much richer and more enjoyable, and it’s one of the main reasons Iglu is such a great place to live.

  • Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In five years, I see myself happily married and working in a career I’m passionate about, using the knowledge and experience I’ve gained to make a meaningful impact. I also hope to be contributing back to Zimbabwe, my home country, whether through community projects, education, or other forms of support. My goal is to grow both personally and professionally while staying connected to my roots and helping create positive change where it matters most.

  • What words of wisdom would you pass on to future Iglu residents?

Make the most of your time at Iglu, it’s more than just a place to live, it’s a community. Say yes to new experiences, get involved in events, and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Balance your studies with self-care, stay active, and find joy in the little things—whether it’s cooking a meal with friends or exploring your new city. Most importantly, be kind to yourself. You’re growing, learning, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
