Alanna M.

  • Hi Alanna! What are you studying?

    Bachelor of Nursing

  • Why did you choose to live in Melbourne?

I chose to study in Melbourne as it is somewhere I’ve always seen myself living and studying, it is close to home and extended family in the suburbs, the #1 best city in the world, and is filled with so many adventures! Initially, Melbourne had so many great universities, and ACU stuck out to me being so close to the city (which I LOVE). The city has so many opportunities for everyone – nightlife, coffee shops, sweet treats for DAYS, and so much more!

  • Why did you choose to live at Iglu?

I chose Iglu MCE because it presented as a warm, welcoming and fun place to live and begin my independent life. I was immediately drawn to the studio apartments and the immense opportunity for socialising! The Cool Start Breakfasts, Events and Communal Spaces were a real standout to me – staying at Iglu another year was a no brainer when these became highlights of my first year and introduced me to some amazing people!

  • What is your favourite thing about being a student?

As a hard worker and studious person, I love learning, especially now that I am learning things directly related to my future career, being a student is so much more fun!! I also love the social side of being a student and the possibility of engaging with mentors and making friends!

  • What is your favourite thing to do when you are not studying?

When I am not studying (which is rare!!) I love to read, get creative, spend time with friends and family, and go for walks in the sunshine (this is tricky in the Melbourne winter).

  • How did the Iglu Regional Scholarship help you?

The Iglu Regional Scholarship helped me by easing the stress of moving out of home, paying rent for the first time, and living somewhere new. To move from a regional area to the city is a big task, so having the Iglu Regional Scholarship helped to make it feel more achievable.

  • What is your favourite thing about being a Resident Leader (RL)?

I really enjoy planning and creating events. It is the best feeling when you can see fellow residents making friends and having fun at one of your events!

  • What’s your go-to spot for studying or relaxing at Iglu?

I love the study rooms on each level, they are such a great place to study, have dinner with friends, or just relax and chat with a cup of tea!

  • Describe your favourite thing about Iglu?

There are so many great things about Iglu, but one of my favourites, is the opportunity to meet and become friends with so many people! This really is a once in a lifetime experience of living and eating breakfast/painting/playing sport/attending other events with people from all over the world and bonding over random things!

  • Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

In 5 years, I would love to be working as a nurse somewhere amazing in the world and also travelling during my time off, whether that’s overseas or in Australia!!

  • What words of wisdom would you pass on to future Iglu residents?

Sign a contract now!!! It may be the best thing you do!
