Summer in Sydney

It’s summer in Sydney and there is always something to keep you busy – whether you want to check out festivals, keep the turkey from going to your hips or just chill out at the beach.

The Big One – Sydney Festival

Every January, the city comes alive with the Sydney Festival – ‘a bold cultural celebration based on the highest quality art and big ideas’. And this year will be no exception. With an incredibly diverse programme, from burlesque circus to Chicago rap to Dutch theatre; from free concerts in The Domain or Parramatta to contemporary dance to traditional Indigenous arts practice – there is definitely something for everyone. Or if hanging out at the Festival Village, having a bite to eat and a cold beverage while listening to bands and DJs until late at night is more your thing, you can do that too.

This year the festival runs from 9 – 26 January 2014 and tickets to all performances are available on the day for only $25 at the Tix for Next to Nix booth in Hyde Park.

Other festival fun

For those in the market for a good music festival – Shore Thing and Field Day – are happening on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day respectively – check out our NYE blogfor more details. Or if you don’t mind a good short film, pop down to Bondi Beach to check out the Flickerfest International Short Film Festival – from 10 – 19 January 2014.

Keep the turkey from your hips

Let’s be honest, it’s pretty easy to over-indulge over the holidays and suddenly find your buttons starting to strain. So to balance it out, why not pop on the walking shoes and take in one of the amazing coastal walks Sydney has to offer. Here are a few to try, if you haven’t already (just click on the link for details):

Chill out at the beach

It goes without saying that Sydney’s famous beaches always beckon during the summer months and a dip in the ocean is a great way to beat the heat and reinvigorate a weary body (probably needed after all the rushing we do at this time of year). And, the best thing about most Sydney beaches – there are accessible by bus so you can sit back, relax and not worry about trying to park.

This is just a small sample of the amazing things going on over the Sydney summer. Check out a few websites for more cool ideas:
