Hi Helena! What are you studying?
Bachelor of Fine Art
-
Why did you choose to study in your current city (i.e. Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney)?
I chose to study in Sydney, 8 hours away from my rural home, because Sydney had the best art schools in Australia.
-
Why did you choose to live at Iglu?
I initially became interested in Iglu when I saw they offered a rural scholarship. But what cemented it for me was seeing all the events the residents could take part in, the breakfasts and the good location.
-
What is your favourite thing about being a student?
My favorite thing about being a student is the course itself, I never thought I would say this, but I love my art school so much, weekends are a bit boring to me now.
-
What is your favourite thing to do when you are not studying?
When I’m not studying, I love to go vintage shopping around Sydney and to do creative writing.
-
As an Iglu Regional Scholarship recipient, how did the scholarship help you?
-
So you’re a Resident Leader. What is your favourite thing about being an RL?
My absolute favourite thing as an RL is organising events, especially the craft related ones.
-
What’s your go-to spot for studying or relaxing at Iglu?
I like the level 13 outdoor area, although it is a little cold in winter, it has a great view and nice gardens.
-
Describe your favourite thing about Iglu?
It’s so hard to pick but I would say the Monday to Friday breakfasts are the best, it’s so much easier to not have to think about making breakfast in the morning and I get to enjoy taking a Toastie and/ or cupcake to university every day. The Zumba and Yoga classes are also fantastic, especially Zumba its really fun! Not to mention the events are also great.
-
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I either see myself in a small art studio back in my rural town or if I go onto honors, I could see myself still living at Iglu.
-
What words of wisdom would you pass on to future Iglu residents
Go to the breakfast, events, and fitness classes as an RL I know that there are a lot of residents who don’t take advantage of all the fun activities and yummy food at their access, I love it and I would recommend that all residents it’s also a great way to get to know people, I have made lots of friends through the events and Zumba.
The scholarship has greatly helped me in the move to Sydney, especially since after I moved down it took a few months to find a job and the lowered rate helped a lot.
