THE LATEST ON COVID-19 IN AUSTRALIA

Australia is currently in a very positive phase in the management of COVID-19, with local transmission at the lowest rates since the start of the pandemic. This has been achieved through robust social distancing, strict hotel quarantine measures for returning travellers, high testing rates and gold-standard contact tracing.

As a result, we are seeing life return to COVID ‘normal’ in Australia and along with this some very positive developments in the domestic and international education sector.

The return of international students

The return of international students to Australia is a top priority with 63 students from China, Hong Kong, Japan, Vietnam and Indonesia, arriving in Darwin recently, to attend Charles Darwin University, as part of a pilot program that will help to inform a wider re-entry of international students.

The NSW Government is also working on plans to allow up to 1,000 international students a week into the state as soon as it can.

The latest news is published on the Study in Australia website along with resources available to international students.

What are universities doing?

All of Australia’s major universities and other education providers are well on track with their plans to welcome students back to on campus learning from Semester 1, 2021. For those preparing for the next phase of their education, open days are back to face-to-face and orientation weeks are scheduled to go ahead.

It goes without saying that this will all be done with COVID Safe measures in place to continue keeping all in the community safe.
